In what can be termed a ‘very soft launch’ WFEL’s stand at DSEI sported a photo of its armoured truck-carried Close Support Bridge (CSB), which is a contender in part of the UK MoD’s Project TYRO. WFEL is working with KMW on this project and the bridge sections, which, if these contenders are successful, will be made by WFEL in the UK, are based on KMW’s Leguan bridging.
The armoured truck carrier is a MAN armoured chassis. WFEL and KMW successfully completed the assessment phase of Project TYRO meeting all criteria set. The partners are currently awaiting an Invitation to Negotiate, with the next phase of the project due at the end of 2019/start of 2020. The other contender in TYRO is Rheinmetall BAE Systems Land (RBSL). One main difference between the contenders is RBSL’s vertical ‘scissor’ bridge deployment configuration versus the low-silhouette, horizontal deployment configuration of the KMW/WFEL offering.
