On 6 April 2020, the NATO Support and Procurement Agency (NSPA) received an urgent material request from Lithuania.

A BOXER armoured transport vehicle (known in Lithuanian service as ‘Vilkas’), incurred damage to one of its differential axles.

This impeded the mobility of the vehicle.

The NSPA BOXER team found that the required spare part was not available in its central warehouse.

Due to the urgency, the team activated the mutual emergency support mechanism.

Within a few hours, Germany (one of the members of the BOXER support partnership) sent a positive response and offered the required item from its warehouse.

The NSPA organised the collection in Germany and the transport to deliver the essential item to Lithuania in less than two days – amid the COVID-19 crisis.

Lithuania is a member of the NSPA BOXER Support Partnership together with the Netherlands and Germany.

NSPA manages and maintains the central direct exchange and national stocks and carries out mediation activities for all current BOXER user nations.

Mutual support in emergencies is another important benefit of being a member of a Support Partnership.

The NSPA is the centre of excellence for life cycle management and integrated logistics support for these vehicles.
