US armoured vehicle manufacturer Oshkosh Defence has set up a joint venture, Oshkosh Al Tadrea Manufacturing (OTM) with Saudi Arabia’s Al Tadrea Manufacturing, of which the latter will be the majority shareholder, in order to establish a local manufacturer for wheeled tactical vehicles. One project is the development of a Saudi version of the 4×4 Joint Light Tactical Vehicle (JLTV), which is currently being built in large numbers by Oshkosh for the US Armed Forces. In preparation for this, personnel have been trained in the assembly, repair and joint maintenance of protected 4×4 M-ATVs, a precursor of the JLTV produced by Oshkosh, of which an estimated 450 are in service with the Saudi Arabian Land Forces. The first vehicles produced by OTM will be two-axle, four-wheel drive, 4×4 trucks from the Family of Medium Tactical Vehicles (FMTV).
