Since 2017, the M1A2 ABRAMs, equipped with the SEP in its third version (SEP v3) has been the most modern version of the Main Battle Tank introduced in 1980 to the U.S. Army and Marine Corps. With the SEP, command systems, endurance and effectiveness have been improved with the basis for digitalisation expanded. Now, Allison Transmission has been contracted to supply  X1100-3B1 transmissions. The order, worth around €150m, includes transmission manufacturing, modernisation, sustainment kits and service support.  Deliveries started in March 2020, and will continue until December 2021. The X1100 cross-drive transmission is designed for heavy combat vehicles weighing between 50 and over 70 tons. Allison has supplied X1100 transmissions for ABRAMs tanks since 1979 and this new contract supports the Army’s efforts to upgrade the tank to the M1A2 SEP v3 configuration.
