The Romanian Air Force officially received the material for its first PATRIOT battery on 17th September 2020 after the systems arrived in Romania and underwent acceptance tests at the National Air Defence Training Centre “Brigadier General Ion Bungescu” in August 2020.

Romania has ordered seven PATRIOT systems in two lots. The first will be operated by the Air Force and is expected to provide an initial capability from 2021 and the second for four batteries in the Romanian army is to be delivered from 2024.

The PATRIOT systems in the 3+ configuration comprise radar and command units, antennas, launchers and power supply as well as 224 missiles (56 MIM-104E GEM-T, 168 PAC-3 MSE) with the procurement volume estimated at $3.9bn.
