The NATO Communications and Information (NCI) Agency has awarded a contract to Thales Norway AS, valued at 60.7m Norwegian Krone (€5.7m) to replace NATO’s current military messaging capability. NATO nations, commands and agencies use the military messaging capability to exchange formal messages in a secure way.

The project includes a software application, message processing, management features and gateway services. Together, those tools and services will enable staff officers to exchange formal messages within NATO and with NATO nations as part of NATO’s formal Consultation, Command and Control activities.

A pilot of the new system will be implemented in the maritime community based in Northwood, UK, in December 2021, with other NATO locations to follow in subsequent phases of the project. A competition was conducted for the project with Thales Norway being selected on the basis of best value.
