Thyssenkrupp Marine Systems (TKMS) handed over two SA’AR 6 class corvettes to the Israeli Navy on 27 July, meaning all four of the ships have now been delivered. Due to the pandemic, the handover ceremony took place on a small scale. TKMS built the ships, which will form the backbone of the Israeli Navy for the next 30 years, in a joint venture with German Naval Yards Kiel.

The contract for the delivery of vessels was signed in May 2015. After the design phase, the construction phase began with the steel cuting ceremony in February 2018. In May 2019, INS MAGEN, as the first of class, received her name in Kiel, and was handed over in November 2020. The second ship, INS OZ, followed in May 2021. The ships will be equipped with radar and weapon systems by the Israeli Navy after arriving at their homeport.
