At Eurosatory, Brazilian company Akaer will present its share in the CASCAVEL wheeled armoured vehicle modernisation programme, the contract for which was awarded following a competitive tender, the company writes in a press release. The EE-9 CASCAVEL is a 6×6 light tank with a cal. 105 mm main gun developed by Engesa in the 1970s. It is in service with some 25 armies in Latin America, Africa and the Middle East

Improvements in the scope of the Brazilian modernisation programme include:

  • a new engine
  • suspension revitalisation
  • an automated control tower to optimise the firing position and to improve situational awareness
  • air conditioning
  • replacement of optical sights with state-of-the-art optronics
  • an anti-tank missile launcher on the turret
  • a fire control computer to perform all ballistic calculations
  • a command and control computer with which to analyse sensor inputs from throughout the vehicle.
