Two MIECZNIK Contracts Awarded

Babcock has announced that they have secured two further contracts relating to Poland’s MIECZNIK (SWORDFISH) frigate programme. The company was awarded a Class Design Contract and a Transfer of Knowledge & Skills (TOKAT) framework agreement, to support the further development of the MIECZNIK programme and enhancement of Poland’s shipbuilding capability. The two contracts follow Babcock’s selection as the platform design provider and technology partner for the MIECZNIK programme earlier this year.

Babcock is supporting the PGZ-MIECZNIK Consortium in the construction of three Arrowhead 140 frigates, which are due to be built in Polish shipyards by a local workforce, drawing significantly from Polish suppliers and Babcock’s global supply chain.

Under the Class Design contract, Babcock will provide a design documentation package to Polska Grupa Zbrojeniowa (PGZ S.A) for submission to the Classification Authority. Under the TOKAT framework contract, Babcock will share its technology, engineering and industry know-how with PGZ S.A., PGZ SW and Remontowa Ship Building, with the aim oftransforming their shipyards to be capable of constructing the MIECZNIK frigates. Under present plans, steel cutting for the first ship of the class is due to commence in 2023.
