Rheinmetall has announced that it has been contracted to deliver its extended range charge (ERC) technology to the US Army. Under the contract, the company’s subsidiary American Rheinmetall Munitions (ARM) will prototype an artillery ERC for firing munitions out of a 155 mm L58 artillery gun.
According to Rheinmetall, the ERC will increase the ranges attained by US Army’s 155mm munitions by approximately 10 per cent over currently fielded propellants. The company added that this range increase is over the entirety of the gun’s operational temperature profile, including in ambient scenarios.
