The US Marine Corps (USMC) has carried out a successful test of their prototype Medium Range Intercept Capability (MRIC) air defence system, which integrates Rafael’s TAMIR missiles used on the IRON DOME system. The live-fire test at White Sands Training Area in New Mexico was the third in a series of tests run as part of the MRIC development programme for the USMC. The programme essentially aims to develop a more mobile variant of the IRON DOME system for the USMC. This latest test also demonstrated the ability to continuously launch TAMIR missiles from a mobile launcher unit developed by the USMC. The TAMIR is capable of intercepting cruise missiles, unmanned aerial vehicles, a variety of rockets, mortars and precision-guided munitions (PGMs).
