The Lithuanian Defence Materiel Agency has awarded Saab a four-year contract that will allow them to order RBS 70 surface-to-air missiles until 2026. Lithuania has also placed their first order, worth SEK 350 million under the new contract, with deliveries scheduled to take place in 2023-2024. The order includes additional missiles for Saab’s RBS 70 ground-based air defence system, which Lithuania has been using since 2004. This purchase is aimed at shoring up Lithuania’s short-range air defence (SHORAD) capabilities over the short term.
Saab has stated that so far over 1,600 launchers and over 18,000 missiles for the RBS 70 family have been delivered to 19 countries.
