On 24 November 2022, Kongsberg announced that the Royal Navy had selected the Kongsberg Naval Strike Missile (NSM) anti-ship and land attack cruise missiles, to arm their Type 23 frigates and Type 45 destroyers, in a collaboration agreement reached with the Norwegian government.
Kongsberg declined to provide detail on the size of the contract, however the company stated that the NSM is due to be ready for operations onboard the first Royal Navy vessel in a little over 12 months. The NSM will replace the RGM-84 Harpoon anti-ship cruise missile in Royal Navy service, which is due to go out of service in 2023.
