On 16 January 2023, NIOA Group, Australia’s largest privately owned supplier of small arms, announced that they had purchased Barrett Firearms. The financial terms of the transaction have not been disclosed. In the acquisition process, Barrett’s Sam Shallenberger has been promoted to the position of CEO of Barrett, while Bryan James has been appointed the new president of Barrett.
NIOA Group stated that the deal further underlines its commitment to international expansion. Robert Nioa, the CEO of NIOA Group, commented in an email to Barrett staff: “Barrett Firearms will continue to be known by its existing name and will continue to be based at Murfreesboro, Tennessee, USA. All management and staff will be retained and production will continue as normal.” Furthermore, NIOA Group’s statement added: “Over time it is expected that manufacturing activities in Murfreesboro will be further expanded.”
