The dates for Expodefensa 2023, the international defence and security trade show for Latin America held in Bogotá, Colombia, have been set as 5 to 7 December 2023.
The ninth edition of the show, Expodefensa 2023 will present the latest defence- and security-related technology, equipment and solutions for the armed forces and the police.
With its 22 countries, Latin America is engaging in a new political dynamic tending towards the reinforcement of the state to enhance public security in its territorial, environmental and socio-economic aspects. Strategic thought in Latin America today focuses on managing the converging problems with which the various countries in the region are confronted: territorial protection, border surveillance, organised crime, narcotics trafficking, and environmental threats.
Faced with these new security challenges, Expodefensa will attempt to determine the extent to which the strategic mission of Latin American armed forces will converge with that of civil security forces to create stronger global security in the region.
The show will see the gathering of more than 11,000 professional participants, including nearly 250 international exhibitors and more than 90 official delegations from 24 countries.
As a showcase for multi-domain solutions (land, air, naval, space and cyberspace), Expodefensa will enable governments and all stakeholders from the military, police and civil protection forces to build the conditions for regional security in Latin America and to seize all the opportunities offered by new technology and equipment, as well as through lessons learned from recent crises and exchanges in the areas of doctrine and training.
Expodefensa 2023 will focus on emerging themes specific to the regional and international political, economic and geostrategic context, including:
- the space domain as a growing opportunity in terms of security and defence in the region;
- the safeguarding of natural reserves and protected species as part of the fight against climate change;
- and the co-ordination of decision making and deployment of resources as part of crisis response and management.
Thus, a specific spotlight will be directed upon new security and defence challenges on the continent with a focus on early warning capabilities in relation to threats, space technology, resources to manage all types of crises incuding natural and environmental disasters, and the means of protecting wild lands and biodiversity.
