The US State Department has approved a possible Foreign Military Sale (FMS) to the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia of MK 54 MOD 0 lightweight torpedoes, the US Defense Security Cooperation Agency (DSCA) announced on 3 January 2025.

The proposed sale, which is worth an estimated USD 78.5 million (EUR 76.8 million), has been passed to the US Congress for final approval.

Saudi Arabia has requested to buy 20 MK 54 MOD 0 lightweight torpedo (LWT) all-up rounds. Also included in the package are the following non-major defense equipment (MDE) items: MK 54 MOD 0 LWT spare parts; MK 54 recoverable exercise torpedoes; handling shapes and containers; training; publications; support and test equipment; US government and contractor engineering, technical, and logistics support services; and other related elements of logistics and programme support.

“The proposed sale will improve the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia’s capability to deter current and future threats by upgrading its anti-submarine warfare capabilities,” the DSCA stated.

The principal contractor for the FMS will be RTX Integrated Defense Systems out of its facilities in in Portsmouth, Rhode Island.
