On 14 January 2025 Israeli edge computing specialist Maris-Tech launched Uranus Ultra: an advanced 360° 3D video situational awareness platform designed specifically for armoured fighting vehicles (AFVs) and mission-critical defence operations.
Developed to address overhead and airborne threats to AFVs, Uranus Ultra enhances battlefield effectiveness by providing comprehensive 360° situational coverage, including crucial aerial perspectives. This approach eliminates blind spots and ensures real-time operational awareness in both urban and open-terrain combat scenarios. The platform combines the detection of both ground and aerial threats, such as unmanned aerial vehicles, by integrating perimeter and skyward-facing technologies into a single solution – capabilities typically provided by separate systems.
The platform’s powerful edge computing capabilities enable on-site analysis and decision making without relying on data transmission to central locations. This capability enhances real-time situational awareness, allowing for faster responses in mission-critical environments. Additionally, Uranus Ultra records events for post-mission analysis, contributing to long-term operational effectiveness.
“Uranus Ultra delivers clear, actionable intelligence for informed tactical decision making through ultra-high-resolution video up to 8K with ultra-low latency,” the company stated in a press release. “Its open architecture allows for seamless integration with existing vehicle systems and supports proprietary AI [artificial intelligence] applications, making it adaptable to specific operational needs and future upgrades.”
To achieve this level of performance Uranus Ultra is equipped with up to 12 SD/HD camera inputs and powered by dual Hailo-8 AI accelerators, providing up to 60 tera operations per second of processing power.
Designed to meet demanding military-grade standards, Uranus Ultra can withstand extreme conditions and electromagnetic interference, according to Maris-Tech, which states that the technology’s “modular, customisable design enhances versatility across a wide range of defence applications, from armoured vehicles to critical infrastructure protection”.
Israel Bar, CEO and founder of Maris-Tech, asserts that Uranus Ultra “represents a paradigm shift in situational awareness technology”. He stated in a company press release, “By enabling networked intelligence across multiple units, we’re not just enhancing individual vehicle capabilities but also transforming battlefield management strategies. Our ongoing AI algorithm development continues to refine threat scenario responses, positioning Uranus Ultra as a cornerstone of next-generation defence technology.”
