Denmark has joined the multinational Common Armoured Vehicle System (CAVS) programme by signing its Technical Arrangement, joining Finland, Latvia, Sweden and Germany, Finnish AFV manufacturer Patria announced on 1 April 2025.
“Following this, Denmark plans to proceed on the next execution phases of the programme,” Patria stated.
The programme is based around the Patria 6×6 armoured vehicle, but the vast majority of vehicles ordered under it are supplied by utilising the participating nations’ local industrial capabilities, with every new nation inherently reinforcing the security of supply for the whole collaborative programme.
Denmark plans to purchase a total of 130 Patria 6×6s under the CAVS programme in a procurement valued at around EUR 250 million.
“Patria welcomes Denmark’s swift decision to join the CAVS programme,” Mats Warstedt, Patria’s senior vice president for the Nordic region, was quoted as saying in a company press release. “The constantly evolving European security landscape has resulted into a high need of multinational collaboration enhancing interoperability and security of supply between allied nations. Supported by the EU’s European Defence Industry Reinforcement through common Procurement Act (EDIRPA), the CAVS programme is a prime example for creating the desired common capabilities in a quick and cost-effective manner.”
The CAVS programme programme began in 2019 as a multinational co-operation initiative and was formally initiated by Finland and Latvia in 2021.
Sweden then entered the programme by joining its research and development programme in June 2022 and signing its Framework Agreement in April 2023, at which point Germany joined the programme by signing its Technical Arrangement, later signing the Framework Agreement in January 2025.
Patria has already received orders for over 850 Patria 6×6s under the programme and has delivered more than 200 vehicles.
The programme is open to European countries with similar equipment requirements, by mutual consent of the participating countries.
