BAE Systems has been awarded a USD 188.5 million (EUR 167 million) full-rate production (FRP) contract from the US Marine Corps (USMC) for 30 30 mm gun-armed Amphibious Combat Vehicles (ACV-30s), the company announced on 29 April 2025.
The contract, which includes fielding support, spares and test equipment, is the first award as part of an FRP Lot 5/6 contract. The USMC awarded BAE Systems a USD 88 million contract to build multiple ACV-30 production-representative test vehicles (PRTVs) in August 2022.
The ACV-30 is equipped with a Kongsberg Protector RT-20 remote turret housing a stabilised 30 mm Mk44 Bushmaster (XM813) chain gun. It enables the transport of troops, mission-essential equipment and other payloads while providing direct fire support to USMC tactical formations. The vehicle’s lightweight turret also ensures that, despite carrying the chain gun, platform mobility is preserved.
BAE Systems is currently under contract for the ACV-Personnel (ACV-P) and ACV-Command (ACV-C). The ACV-P variant has the ability to transport 13 combat-loaded marines plus three crew, while the ACV-C variant provides multiple workstations for marines to maintain and manage situational awareness in the battlespace.
After the ACV design proposed by BAE Systems and Iveco was selected in June 2018, the first 18 ACVs were delivered to the USMC in October 2020. The commencement of FRP for the ACV was announced by the USMC and BAE Systems in December 2020.
The USMC is expected to procure around 390 ACV-Ps, 33 ACV-Cs and 175 ACV-30s. BAE Systems is meanwhile in the process of constructing three PRTVs for the ACV-Recovery (ACV-R) variant, which will provide field maintenance, recovery and repair capabilities to the USMC’s Assault Amphibian companies. Around 34 of these are expected to be procured.
Work on the ACV-30s, which will take place in York and Johnstown in Pennsylvania and Charleston in South Carolina, will carry through to the third quarter of 2026, BAE Systems noted.
