The Swedish Defence Materiel Administration (FMV) has placed an order with Saab for RBS 70 NG mobile short-range air defence systems and missiles, Saab announced on 1 July 2025.

The order, which was booked in the second quarter of 2025 and contains an unspecified number of systems and missiles, is valued at around SEK 1.5 billion (EUR 130 million), with deliveries scheduled in the 2027-2028 timeframe.

The order also includes equipment that will enable the Swedish Armed Forces to integrate the RBS 70 NG system onto Saab’s Mobile Short-Range Air Defence (MSHORAD) solution in the future. MSHORAD takes the RBS 70 NG Remote Weapon Station and adds a Saab Giraffe 1X radar and command, control and communication system, mounting them onto a tactical vehicle.

“We are continuously contributing to strengthening the capabilities of the Swedish Armed Forces and Saab’s air defence systems play a vital role in keeping Sweden’s skies secure,” Görgen Johansson, head of Saab’s Dynamics business area, was quoted as saying in a company press release.

Saab’s MSHORAD system with the RBS 70 NG features an automatic target tracker and a built-in night sight. It provides the user with the capability to defeat threats including aircraft, drones and missiles from distances of up to 9 km.

The Swedish armed forces are likely to integrate their recently ordered RBS 70 NG air defence systems into overall MSHORAD platforms. [Saab]
