Royal Thai Air Force orders two H225s from Airbus, adding to its H225M fleet

The Royal Thai Air Force (RTAF) has ordered two H225 multi-role helicopters, Airbus announced on 26 September 2025.

The aircraft will be used to enhance the RTAF’s capabilities in search-and-rescue (SAR) and emergency medical services (EMS) operations.

The RTAF already operates a dozen H225M helicopters, the first of which was received in 2015. These are used as troop transports but also for special operations, combat search and rescue and more general SAR operations. The RTAF also operates a fleet of six Airbus H135 military training helicopters.

The completion work for the new H225s will be performed by Thai Aviation Industries (TAI) through its established partnership with Airbus Helicopters, “ensuring seamless integration and local expertise”, according to Airbus.

The RTAF commander-in-chief, Air Chief Marshal Punpakdee Pattanakul, was quoted by Airbus as saying, “The H225M has proven to be an indispensable asset to our operations over the past decade, delivering exceptional performance and reliability across diverse and challenging missions. The addition of these two new helicopters, specifically designated for SAR and EMS, will further strengthen our ability to protect and serve the people of Thailand, ensuring we can respond effectively to emergencies wherever they may arise.”

Olivier Michalon, executive vice president of global business at Airbus Helicopters, added, “We are deeply honoured by the continued trust the Royal Thai Air Force places in our H225 helicopters. This follow-on order is a testament to the H225’s versatility, advanced capabilities, and its critical role in supporting national defence and public service missions.
