Finnish company Marine Alutech is to deliver a new generation of landing craft to the Royal Netherlands Marine Corps (Korps Mariniers), the company announced on 15 October 2025.

The Littoral Assault Craft (LAC) will become the Dutch marines’ new landing craft, replacing the current Landing Craft Vehicle Personnel (LCVP) vessels. The new craft are expected to enter service between 2026 and 2028.

The LAC has been designed by Marine Alutech to support the Royal Netherlands Marine Corps’ new doctrine, known as Force Design. This concept enables the simultaneous landing of marines and their equipment from amphibious transport ships positioned further offshore.

Compared to the LCVPs, the new craft delivers a significant leap in performance and can be equipped with a number of weapon systems. It is faster than its predecessor, capable of covering greater distances and can operate at sea for longer periods of time.

The Royal Netherlands Navy is on the verge of a major fleet modernisation. The LAC has therefore been designed to be compatible with both the current and next generations of Dutch amphibious transport ships.

Marine Alutech is currently expanding rapidly, with an orderbook of approximately EUR 200 million, and says it is currently engaged in ongoing discussions with seven NATO countries regarding new projects.

Based in the village of Teijo-Salo about an hour southwest of Helsinki, the company’s goal is to increase its workforce to around 500 employees by 2030.
