NH Industries and the Greek Ministry of Defence (MoD) have signed a follow-on support contract for the Hellenic Army’s fleet of NH90 helicopters, NHIndustries announced on 12 December 2025.
The new contract, valued at EUR 50 million, establishes a comprehensive support framework for the Hellenic Army’s NH90 Tactical Transport Helicopter (TTH) variants, covering spare parts provisioning, maintenance services and a full range of sustainment solutions over the next five years.
NHIndustries – a joint venture owned by Airbus Helicopters (62.5%), Leonardo (32%) and GKN Fokker (5.5%) – stated that the support service under the new contract “will significantly enhance the operational availability of Greece’s TTH fleet while further strengthening the relationship between NHIndustries and the Hellenic authorities”.
This is a key consideration, given that a number of NH90 operators have retired their NH90 fleets due a combination of delivery delays, technical issues, high operational costs and low availability rates.
Australia and Norway have both axed their NH90 fleets, Sweden has indicated it will do the same, Portugal cancelled an NH90 order before receiving any helicopters and the Belgian MoD confirmed in July 2025 that it would deactivate its NH90 fleet this year.
Greece ordered 20 NH90s in August 2003, although the last of these was not delivered to the Hellenic Army until October 2025.
In an NHIndustries press release the company’s president, Axel Aloccio, said of the Greek support contract, “This agreement represents a major milestone in ensuring the long‑term success and performance of the NH90 in Greece.
“We recently delivered the 20th and final NH90 to the Hellenic Army and this contract will be essential to ensuring that these state-of-the-art helicopters will be available to perform their critical missions,” Aloccio added.
The NH90 is available in two primary variants: the NH90 TTH for land‑based operations and the NH90 NFH (NATO Frigate Helicopter) for naval missions.
NHIndustries states that more than 530 NH90 helicopters of both variants have been delivered and have collectively surpassed 500,000 flight hours, although, as previously mentioned, not all of the originally delivered NH90 fleets remain active.
