At Eurosatory, Indra Group presented its new MTR (Multimission Terrestrial Radar/Multifunctional Tactical Radar) radar family, which is based entirely on AESA technology, for the first time. To demonstrate the high mobility of the system, the radar was presented on an unprotected Rheinmetall HX 8×8 truck, Indra wrote in a press release dated 18 June.

This combination of high-performance sensors and a robust vehicle platform is said to be a direct response to modern, high-intensity conflict scenarios. In these operational environments, the enormous density of adversary sensors creates a transparent battlefield, making extremely rapid redeployment of one’s own systems imperative in order to evade enemy counter-fire. The MTR radars can therefore be deployed and redeployed within a matter of minutes.

MTR is multi-mission capable

A central feature of the new radar generation is its multi-mission capability. The system combines the functions of counter-battery artillery localization, air surveillance, and coastal surveillance into a single platform. This versatility allows armed forces to respond flexibly to changing threat scenarios, while simultaneously reducing the number of units to be deployed and thus significantly lowering the logistical footprint in the area of operations.

Technological features of the MTR family include a fully digital architecture, 4D capabilities for precise tracking of projectile trajectories, and the use of gallium nitride (GaN) semiconductors in the electronics. These components increase transmitting power, efficiency, and reliability under extreme operating conditions. In addition, the operating modes are specifically optimized for modern threats such as drones and high-speed missiles.

MTR for medium and long range

Indra offers the system in two versions. The MTR 5 covers the medium-range spectrum, is primarily designed for counter-battery and drone defense missions, and features its own control station for autonomous operation. The MTR 10 variant is optimized as a long-range radar for air surveillance and serves as a gap filler or reinforcement for higher-level ground-based air defense systems (GBAD/SAMOC). Both versions are fully integrated into Indra’s existing command and control systems.
