On 27 November 2024 Turkish land systems manufacturer Otokar signed a RON 4.26 billion (cEUR 857 million, excluding VAT) multi-year contract with Romtehnica, representing the Romanian Ministry of National Defence, to supply 1,059 Cobra II 4×4 tactical light armoured vehicles for the Romanian armed forces.
Under the contract the first 278 Cobra II 4×4 vehicles will be manufactured in Türkiye, while the rest will be manufactured in Romania. Deliveries are planned to be initiated in the last quarter of 2025 and be completed in batches over five years. The tender also includes some integrated logistics support services in addition to the 1,059 vehicles.
Otokar had submitted its bid for the Romanian Light Armored Tactical Vehicles tender on 20 March 2024. Following the successful completion of the technical evaluation, field tests and financial evaluation phases, Otokar was informed that it had been declared as the winner of the tender on 4 October 2024.
Otokar’s Cobra II tactical armoured vehicle is actively used by more than 20 users in 13 countries. It is designed as a modular platform that can be developed for different mission requirements and has been designed and produced in more than 30 different versions.
