The UK MoD’s Defence Equipment Plan for the period 2021-2031 presents an update of the procurement planning for the current decade. Eight major projects alone account for more than £10 Bn (€12 Bn), over two-thirds of the total budget.

The largest item is the “additional BOXER armoured vehicles” programme at £2.4 Bn. This suggests that a procurement of almost 500 more vehicles is intended. €3.7Bn has been budgeted for new ships in addition to €1.7 Bn for new F-35 fighter aircraft. The Special forces are to be re-equipped with €1.3 Bn of equipment while digital transformation and helicopter replacements “digest” €1.2 Bn each.

The big eight also include the planned procurement of additional A400M transport aircraft. €900M has been budgeted for this requirement, suggesting eight additional aircraft. Apart from the timeframe mentioned above, no timetables have been listed for the individual programmes.
