Abu Dhabi-based Edge Group announced at the 2023 Dubai Air Show on 15 November that its has been awarded an AED 4.1 Bn (EUR 1 Bn) contract for the supply of air-launched munitions by the defence ministry of the United Arab Emirates (UAE).
Edge entity Lahab Defence Systems, the United Arab Emirates’ sole munitions manufacturer, was awarded the contract, which includes the production and delivery of Mk 81, Mk 82, Mk 83, and Mk 84 general-purpose freefall bombs.
Hamad Al Marar, president of the Missiles & Weapons cluster within EDGE, was quoted by the company as saying: “This contract strengthens the confidence of the Ministry of Defence in Lahab Defence Systems and reflects our ambitions to develop capabilities that meet future needs in the long term. We look forward to continuing to provide support and strengthening our commitment to the Ministry of Defence.”
Production of the munitions by Lahab will directly contribute to the UAE government’s ‘Make it in the Emirates’ initiative and ‘Operation 300bn’: a national industrial strategy aimed at raising the UAE manufacturing sector’s GDP contribution to AED 300 Bn over the next nine years.
Meanwhile, on the same day it was announced that Edge entity Adasi had signed an AED 487 M contract to supply RASH 2M and RASH 2H mortar round guidance kits and other in-house-designed payloads to the UAE Ministry of Defence.
Designed and developed by Adasi engineers, the RASH 2M and RASH 2H are distinguished by their lightweight design and exceptional precision in engaging targets, according to Edge.
