The US Air Force (USAF) announced the award of a USD 1.2 billion (EUR 1.07 billion) contract modification to Raytheon on 11 September 2024 for Advanced Medium Range Air-to-Air Missile (AMRAAM) Production Lot 38.

In addition to providing missiles to both the USAF and US Navy, the contract also supplies AMRAAM all-up rounds to multiple countries through the US Foreign Military Sales mechanism, including Bahrain, Bulgaria, Canada, Finland, Germany, Hungary, Italy, Japan, Norway, Switzerland, Ukraine, and United Kingdom.

Raytheon noted the day after the contract award was announced that it is the largest AMRAAM award to date and comes 15 months after the company received a USD 1.15 billion AMRAAM contract.

This is the sixth AMRAAM production lot developed under the Form, Fit, Function Refresh, also knowns as F3R.

“Air dominance is critical to staying ahead of increasingly advanced adversary threats,” Paul Ferraro, president of Air & Space Defense Systems at Raytheon, was quoted as saying by the company. “AMRAAM is the most advanced, combat-proven missile system, and this contract ensures we continue to provide our warfighters with the cutting-edge technology they need.”

As well as additional production of the AMRAAM missiles, the contract modification also covers AMRAAM telemetry system, initial and field spares, and other production engineering support hardware and activities.

The work will be performed at Raytheon’s facilities in Tucson, Arizona, and is expected to be completed by 31 December 2028.

The Air Force Life Cycle Management Center, Air Dominance Division Contracting Office, at Eglin Air Force Base is Florida, is the contracting activity.
