Embraer received a contract from the Brazilian Army at Mostra BID, the National Defense and Security Fair in Brasilia, on 4 December 2024 for the delivery of one SABER M200 Vigilante S-band air surveillance radar.

The contract, which is worth BRL 102 million (EUR 15.9 million) also includes continuing the technical and operational evaluation of the system regarding its future use by the Brazilian Army’s anti-aircraft artillery units.

The Brazilian Army will be the first operator of the M200 Vigilante radar, which will bolster its low- and medium-altitude air defence capabilities. The radar has a 200 km range, an identification friend or foe (IFF) system and features an integrated power generator, making it easy to deploy. The system is air transportable in an Embraer C-390 airlifter.

Embraer also received a BRL 147 million contract from the Financiadora de Estudos e Projetos (Finep) – a public company linked to the Brazilian Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation – at Mostra BID on 4 December to complete the development of new technologies to be used in the M200 multi-mission radar.

“Finep’s support for the development of the M200 multi-mission radar represents the continuation of a long tradition of co-operation for the development of a family of radars for the Brazilian Army,” Finep’s president, Celso Pansera, was quoted as saying by Embraer. “The M200 Multimission radar will be a key asset for building a medium-altitude anti-aircraft defence system, essential for strengthening our country’s deterrence capacity.”

“The signing of this contract reinforces our commitment to developing the most advanced systems and solutions in Brazil, incorporating high national technological content,” added Bosco da Costa Junior, president and CEO of Embraer Defense & Security. “Counting on Finep’s support for this important step is essential in order to develop and maintain a greater autonomy and sovereignty in this type of strategic technology.”

Development of the M200 multi-mission radar is a strategic programme for the Brazilian Army designed to indigenously produce active electronically scanned- array (AESA) radar technology for the Brazilian armed forces and for export.
