AM General displayed its new Joint Light Tactical Vehicle (JLTV) A2 at the IDEX 2025 defence exhibition, held in Abu Dhabi from 17-21 February, amid news that production of the vehicle is underway.

Initial deliveries of the JLTV A2 are scheduled for the first quarter of 2025.

In close collaboration with the US Army, AM General is implementing over 250 engineering improvements to the original JLTV. Key among these are the reduction of interior and exterior noise levels, improved corrosion protection, and improved fuel economy.

The JLTV on display at IDEX 2025 featured a Hornet Air Guard remote-controlled weapon system (RCWS) that incorporates a Hornet counter-unmanned aerial vehicle (C-UAV) capability. The Hornet Air Guard concept offers C-UAV detection and neutralisation capabilities through the use of airburst ammunition and the addition of an independent drone detection ring.

“IDEX is a leading military exhibition which enables us to connect with our global customers and discuss how we can meet their evolving needs to support the Warfighter,” John Chadbourne, AM General executive vice president and chief business development officer, was quoted as saying in a company press release. “This year we are proud to display the first AM General-built JLTV A2 asset so our customers can see, first-hand, the myriad improvements we’ve made to the platform,” he added.

While Oshkosh Defence was selected in August 2015 for the initial eight-year JLTV production contract, in April 2020 the US Army announced it would issue a new JLTV contract after US Congress mandated a recompete to bring down costs. A Presolicitation Notice was issued for a five years plus five years option follow-on (JLTV A2) contract in February 2022. A year later, in February 2023, the US Department of Defense announced that AM General had been awarded a USD 230.87 million (EUR 220 million) JLTV hybrid contract. In May 2023 AM General was awarded a USD 4.65 billion firm-fixed-price contract for JLTVs, trailers, kits and support services.
