Danish Doppler radar manufacturer Weibel Scientific announced on 17 March 2025 that it has entered into a strategic collaboration with Estonian surveillance and counter-unmanned aerial vehicle (C-UAV) specialist DefSecIntel Solutions.

The agreement, signed at Weibel’s headquarters in Allerød, was witnessed by Estonian Ambassador to Denmark E Andre Pung and underlines the strong defence co-operation between Denmark and Estonia and their shared commitment to European security and technological sovereignty, Weibel stated.

The collaboration between the two companies will focus on a number of areas:

  • Advanced radar integration: Weibel’s high-performance X-band radars will be integrated into DefSecIntel’s counter-UAV and ultra-short-range air defence (USHORAD) Eirshield systems;
  • Ukraine and European security initiatives: joint solutions will be aligned with EU strategic security and defence objectives and programmes, such as Sky Shield and Eastern Shield, ensuring rapid deployment of critical technologies;
  • Production and industrial co-operation: manufacturing capabilities in Europe and Ukraine will be leveraged to ensure fast and cost-efficient production, supported by EU investment or industrial programmes;
  • Research and technology development: both companies will engage in joint proof-of-concept development, utilising DefSecIntel’s research teams and Weibel’s radar expertise to push technological boundaries for new air defence and C-UAV solutions.

The partnership will enable both companies to expand their presence in critical defence markets, with a focus on European procurement programmes and NATO-aligned security initiatives. A dedicated technology task force will accelerate integration and deployment, ensuring that defence forces across Europe and Ukraine receive battle-proven, next-generation capabilities.

“Weibel Scientific has long been at the forefront of radar innovation, and this partnership allows us to extend our expertise into a fully integrated defence ecosystem,” Weibel Scientific CEO Peter Røpke was quoted as saying in a company press release. “By working with DefSecIntel we can create scalable and highly effective solutions for both European and global defence challenges.”

“This partnership is about more than technology: it is about ensuring that European defence solutions remain independent, innovative, and built to meet real operational needs,” added DefSecIntel Solutions CEO Jaanus Tamm. “We need European solutions, as air defence and C-UAS have been critical capability gaps. We require not only innovative solutions but also production capabilities in Europe to counter various threats, including hostile drone attacks. Together, we are setting new standards for integrated air defence and counter-drone solutions, like our system Eirshield Dome.”

Weibel noted that Estonia has been a driving force behind the Eastern Shield Drone Wall initiative: a pan-European defence effort aimed at securing the region against emerging threats. The collaboration between it and DefSecIntel will ensure that European technology remains sovereign, advanced and operationally superior, the company added.
