General Dynamics European Land Systems (GDELS) – Steyr is presenting a new variant of its Pandur 6×6 EVO armoured vehicle at the AUSA Global Force 2025 exhibition, held in Huntsville, Alabama, from 25 to 27 March 25.
The new Maneuver Short Range Air Defense (M-SHORAD) variant is equipped with Moog’s unmanned Reconfigurable Integrated-weapons Platform (RIwP) turret: a proven, modular and scalable weapon platform for air defence, anti-tank or fire support missions with a medium-calibre cannon and missile effectors.
The Pandur 6×6 EVO M-SHORAD variant is armed with a 30×113 mm calibre XM914 cannon, which is able to fire airburst ammunition, and two quad launchers for Stinger surface-to-air missiles (SAMs).
An Echodyne EchoShield software-defined, medium-range pulse-Doppler radar, operating in the Ku-band, is used to monitor the airspace at close range and for target tracking, while two control consoles for the weapon system and the fire control computers are located inside the vehicle. The M-SHORAD Pandur, according to GDELS-Steyr, is particularly capable of providing highly mobile force protection against manned and unmanned airborne threats.
The Pandur EVO has been in service with the Austrian armed forces as a wheeled armoured personnel carrier since 2018, while in February 2024 a further 225 vehicles in 12 different mission variants were ordered. These included the Pandur EVO SHORAD variant, which features a Rheinmetall Air Defence Skyranger 30 turret armed with a 30×173 mm revolver cannon capable of firing air-burst ammunition as well as launchers for two Mistral SAMs.
