Finnish armoured vehicle manufacturer Patria and the European hub for the Trophy active protection system (APS), EuroTrophy, are working on integrating the APS onto the Armoured Modular Vehicle (AMV) XP 8×8.
EuroTrophy is a joint venture founded in 2021 by Trophy manufacturer Rafael, KNDS Germany and General Dynamics European Land Systems (GDELS).
According to a EuroTrophy press release dated 8 May 2025, the first demonstration vehicle was presented to an international audience at the Patria Arctic Events in Rovaniemi, Lapland, in March 2025. EuroTrophy is supporting the vehicle manufacturer with the integration of the Trophy APS, while also offering maintenance and lifecycle support for the system.
The AMV XP is a performance-enhanced version of the 8×8 wheeled armoured vehicle, the original version of which has been in widespread use since 2004, particularly in Europe. The new variant was launched on the market in 2013; XP stands for extra payload, performance and protection. The 8.1 m long, 2.7 m high and 2.8 m wide vehicle has a combat weight of 32 tonnes and is designed for a payload of 15 tonnes. Powered on all axles by a Scania diesel engine producing 450 kW, the vehicle can reach a top speed of over 100 km/h on the road. The crew compartment of around 12 m3 can accommodate up to 10 soldiers in addition to the permanent vehicle crew (driver and commander plus gunner if required).
The vehicle has basic protection against ballistic threats, mines and improvised explosive devices (IEDs), which can be increased modularly up to level 4 or 4a/4b in accordance with STANAG 4569 if required by the customer. An NBC protection system and a fire extinguishing system are also integrated.
Integration of the Trophy APS gives the AMV XP unparalleled protection against anti-tank missiles, rocket-propelled grenades (RPGs), drones and other armour-piercing threats, according to EuroTrophy.
In addition to its protective functions, the Trophy system also enables the use of a Fire Source Location (FSL) capability: Trophy’s sensors recognise enemy fire and transmit the direction and distance of the attacker to the vehicle crew. This data can be used to return fire in a targeted manner with the vehicle’s weapon systems. In addition, the position of the enemy can be transmitted via the vehicle’s battle management system (BMS) to allied forces, which can then also react.
The Trophy APS on the AMV XP combines two established systems into one highly protected platform. After the Israeli Eitan 8×8, the AMV XP is the second wheeled armoured vehicle to be equipped with the Trophy system.
Patria and EuroTrophy have so far not named a customer for the Trophy-equipped AMV XP, but it is known that Greece is interested in the combination.
Patria recently exhibited the AMV XP at the DEFEA 2025 exhibition in Athens, which ran from 6 to 8 May.
