Norway’s Kongsberg and France’s Naval Group signed a comprehensive partnership agreement on 15 May 2025 to facilitate the sharing of expertise on cutting-edge technologies to generate new market opportunities and reinforce both companies’ positions as leading players in the defence sector.

The partnership agreement covers several specific areas, including the maintenance of frigates, Kongsberg’s Vanguard maritime system for the surveillance and protection of territorial waters, manned and unmanned system teaming (MUM-T), counter-drone solutions, strike missiles, naval cyber capabilities, combat systems, and naval collaborative combat.

“We are very honoured to sign this major agreement with Kongsberg,” Pierre Éric Pommellet, Naval Group chairman and CEO, was quoted as saying in a Kongsberg press release. “This very substantial partnership will allow both of us to share knowledge in defence and naval combat, in a very extensive way.”

“We look forward to exchanging our knowledge and skills with Naval Group,” added Geir Håøy, president and CEO of Kongsberg. “This partnership reflects two leading companies joining forces to create the best products within the defence industry in the future. The agreement signals a shared commitment to national security, NATO co-operation and an integrated European defence.”

The partnership agreement also reflects Naval Group’s intent to become a key supplier to the Royal Norwegian Navy.
