Current geopolitical developments have brought the importance of modern defence technology into sharp focus. Reliable power supply forms the foundation for operational readiness and effectiveness – whether in air defence systems, armoured vehicles, or field camps. The technology company VINCORION from Wedel near Hamburg has established itself as a specialist for these key components – which is also reflected in the company’s growth.

Power Supply for Air Defence Systems: Efficiency with Tactical Advantages

“Anyone operating air defence systems such as IRIS-T or Patriot requires absolutely reliable power supply – around the clock,” explains Sascha Brüning, Vice President Business Development and Sales at VINCORION. “With our hybrid power systems, we can not only ensure permanent availability but also significantly reduce fuel consumption.” The power systems combine state-of-the-art diesel engines with advanced battery storage technology. The concrete figures are impressive: whilst a conventional 15-kilowatt generator set consumes an average of 3.37 litres of fuel per hour, hybrid technology reduces this value to just 1.78 litres – a reduction of nearly half. “Even more remarkable is the leap in operational readiness,” emphasises Brüning. “Our systems increase average operating time between maintenance.” Annual maintenance and repair requirements drop from 91 to just 11 hours – an enormous logistical and economic advantage for operators. These efficient technologies are already deployed with IRIS-T and Patriot – systems that today demonstrate their crucial importance for defending critical infrastructure.

Tactical Advantages Through Sustainable Defence Technology

The reduced fuel requirements of the hybrid power systems translate directly into operational advantages. Less fuel con- sumption means fewer resupply convoys that are vulnerable to attack – this represents a direct security gain for forces. Additionally, operational endurance is significantly enhanced. The approach that VINCORION pursues under the concept of “Green Defence” primarily targets these militarily relevant performance improvements. The more efficient systems also enable a higher number of operationally ready equipment with the same maintenance personnel – a decisive advantage given the skills shortage.

High-Performance Technology for Air Rescue Operations

However, VINCORION’s expertise for applications in critical missions extends far beyond military energy systems. Another high-tech product is the ERH premier electric rescue hoist – an innovation that can be deployed in both civilian and military helicopters and offers life-saving capabilities in rescue operations. This hoist is distinguished by exceptional performance data and sets new standards in rescue technology. As the first rescue hoist, it is designed to meet the stringent safety requirements of the European Union Aviation Safety Agency (EASA). Its modular design enables rapid maintenance and maximum availability. The integrated capstan technology minimises cable wear and ensures precise cable guidance even under extreme conditions. With a lifting capacity of up to 303 kilograms, three persons with full equipment can be transported simultaneously – at a hoisting speed of one metre per second. For loads up to 150 kilograms, even two metres per second is possible.

Expansion Through Research and Modernisation

VINCORION currently employs around 900 staff at three German locations – Wedel, Essen, and Altenstadt – as well as one site in the USA. The company’s decades of experience and unique engineering expertise enable bespoke solutions for customers’ specific requirements. To meet rising demand, VINCORION is modernising its production processes – transitioning from individual manufacturing to more efficient series production. With this combination of innovative technologies, increased production capacity, and strategic research, VINCORION positions itself as a leading partner for the challenges facing the European defence industry.
