The Bundeswehr officially received its first Eagle 6×6-based Medium Protected Medical Vehicle (abbreviated mgSanKfz in German) from General Dynamics European Land Systems (GDELS) on 4 July 2025.

The vehicle was handed over at the Bundeswehr’s Medical Training Regiment’s garrison during the medical exercise ILÜ San 2025 in Feldkirchen, Lower Bavaria.

The Bundeswehr ordered 80 Eagle 6×6-based Medium Protected Medical Vehicles from GDELS under an April 2020 contract valued at USD 159 million (EUR 136 million), but deliveries under the contract have been subject to delays.

Each mgSanKfz has a crew of four, optionally including an emergency physician. The vehicle is equipped with a flexible stretcher loading system and state-of-the-art medical technology for the qualified transport of up to two patients.

“The driver’s cab and transport compartment are protected against the various threats faced on today’s battlefield,” GDELS stated in a press release. “With its 229 kW diesel engine, robust chassis with Eagle-typical De Dion suspension and third-axle steering, the mgSanKfz sets new standards for this category of vehicles.”

“We would like to thank our German customers for the continued trust they place in us and are delighted that we can hand over the most modern ambulance vehicle in the world to the German armed forces,” added Dr Thomas Kauffmann, managing director of GDELS Germany and vice president for GDELS global sales.
