In co-operation with Israel’s UVision, Rheinmetall has significantly ramped up its capacity to produce loitering munitions (LMs), the company announced on 8 October 2025.
Noting that it completed a modern production facility for assembly, testing and warhead production and integration of LMs “a few months ago”, Rheinmetall asserted that series production there is now at “full speed”. The facility is operated by the Italian subsidiary RWM Italia at its sites in Musei and Domusnovas in Sardinia: the inert and electronic components are assembled and tested at Musei; while the warheads are manufactured and integrated at Domusnovas.
The current range of UVision LMs that Rheinmetall produces includes:
- the Hero 30 small, portable LM for infantry use;
- the Hero 120 medium-sized LM for precision strikes against armoured vehicles and static installations;
- and the Hero 400 medium/long-range LM for precision strikes against fortified positions.
Rheinmetall’s total order backlog for these systems, for eight different NATO and non-NATO countries in Europe, currently totals more than EUR 200 million.
Additionally, Rheinmetall has LMs in its own portfolio, including the Luna NG reconnaissance drone. With its uncrewed aerial systems, which are manufactured in Penzberg, among other places, Rheinmetall generated sales of around EUR 120 million in 2024.
