Rheinmetall has been commissioned by an unnamed NATO customer to supply a significant number of Hero loitering munitions (LMs), the company announced on 26 November 2025, with several hundred systems ordered this year.

The value of the contracts is in the low three-digit-million-euro range gross, with deliveries to begin in the first quarter of 2026 and be completed by the end of next year.

The LMs will be produced in Italy by Rheinmetall subsidiary RWM Italia with the support of Israeli partner Uvision, which developed the Hero range, and will feature the latest generation of high-performance anti-tank warheads developed by Rheinmetall.

RWM Italia currently has multiple Hero LMs in serial production, including the smaller, infantry-portable Hero 30, the medium-sized Hero 120 for precision strikes against armoured vehicles and installations, and the medium/long-range Hero 400 for precision strikes against fortified positions.

Rheinmetall noted that it has received orders for Hero LMs from several NATO customers in Europe.

Rheinmetall’s LM and wider unmanned aerial vehicle portfolio also includes the Luna NG reconnaissance drone and several other models in different classes. Rheinmetall also co-operates with other well-known companies in this business segment, such as Lockheed Martin, Anduril and Auterion.
