Israel’s Elbit Systems has been awarded a contract valued at approximately USD 57 million (EUR 55 million) to supply its Precise and Universal Launching System (PULS) rocket artillery system to the German armed forces, Elbit announced on 6 February 2025.

The order is being carried out through agreements between the Dutch, Israeli and German governments.

For its PULS offering Elbit Systems has entered into a co-operation with Germany’s KNDS Deutschland and Diehl Defence. Under the name EuroPULS, the companies intend to jointly develop the associated adaptations and integrate German C4I equipment (such as command and weapon control systems). Subsequently, these systems will then be procured by the German procurement authority, the Federal Office for Bundeswehr Equipment, Information Technology and In-Service Support (BAAINBw), as well as the associated technical test centres to achieve approval for in-service use by the Bundeswehr.

The EuroPULS rocket artillery system will be manufactured in Europe by Elbit Systems and KNDS Deutschland and is characterised by its open architecture and adaptable design, according to Elbit Systems. This allows its Advanced Launcher Module to be integrated into a variety of platforms. In addition, it supports the integration of third-party ammunition, so that the system can also fire rocket munitions made by other manufacturers.

EuroPULS forms the basis for the Bundeswehr’s future indirect long-range fire system, explained explained Yehuda (Udi) Vered, general manager of Elbit System Land. “This acquisition paves the way for future orders of the Euro-PULS configuration and highlights the strength of our European collaboration with KNDS Deutschland, reflecting our joint-commitment to delivering advanced, operationally proven, flexible and cost-effective solutions that enhance the operational capabilities of our customers,” said Vered.

Ralf Ketzel, CEO of KNDS Deutschland, was quoted as saying, “The co-operation between Elbit Systems and KNDS Deutschland is a milestone in the development of a European indirect-fire system for rockets,” adding that, with EuroPULS, “Elbit’s technology meets the European systems know-how of KNDS”.

The multi-purpose PULS launcher features two pods, with each designed for a specific rocket type. Current rounds integrated with the system include the Accular 122 mm rocket (18 rounds) with a range of up to 35 km, the Accular 160 mm rocket (10 rounds) with a range of up to 40 km, the EXTRA rocket (four rounds) with a range of up to 150 km and the Predator Hawk rocket (two rounds) with a range of up to 300 km.

According to Elbit, a typical fire mission can be executed in less than one minute from initiation.
