High-resolution sonar provider Klein Marine Systems has been awarded an indefinite delivery/indefinite quantity (IDIQ) contract by the US Naval Oceanographic Office (NAVOCEANO) to provide support and maintenance for its fleet of Klein System 5900 sidescan sonars, the company announced on 6 August.
The five-year, firm-fixed-price contract is worth a maximum amount of USD 1.5 million (EUR 1.29 million).
The contract “underscores NAVOCEANO’s continued trust in Klein’s deep technical expertise and long-standing history of delivering reliable, mission-critical solutions for naval applications”, the company stated in a press release.
NAVOCEANO has a fleet of 10 Klein System 5900 tow-fish systems that are used to collect physical oceanographic data. This contract ensures continued operational readiness of the sonar systems’ critical missions.
The System 5900 is a highly configurable multi-beam sidescan sonar that allows high-speed surveys at up to 12 kts (22 km/h) with 100% bottom coverage. It offers a 3.2 cm across-track resolution and 0.07° along-track resolution, permitting acquisition of ultra-high-resolution data rapidly with near synthetic-aperture sonar (SAS)-level performance.
Headquartered in Newburyport, Massachusetts, Klein Marine Systems has designed and manufactured high-performance systems for hydrographic surveying, underwater exploration, environmental monitoring, search and rescue, and defence operations, serving a worldwide customer base.
