German sensor manufacturer Hensoldt is supplying its PrecISR air surveillance radar to air surveillance specialist CAE-Aviation in Luxembourg, which is installing the system under a King Air BEECHCRAFT B350. Hensoldt also announced that the end customer cannot be named. In a strategic partnership, the two companies intend to develop customer-specific capabilities, provide training, maintenance and market the PrecISR product in the future.

The contract was preceded by flight demonstrations in real land and sea scenarios in which PrecISR was able to prove its SAR/MTI capabilities at a high level. This included the joint participation of Hensoldt and CAE-Aviation in the maritime surveillance exercise OCEAN 2020, where PrecISR was mounted on a CAE-Aviation aircraft.

The PrecISR airborne multi-mission surveillance radar uses the latest advances in active array and digital receiver technology to create a scalable, high-performance sensor that can be installed aboard helicopters, UAVs and fixed-wing aircraft, according to Hensoldt. The system is capable of detecting, tracking and classifying thousands of objects, literally finding the “needle in the haystack”, the company added.

Because of its compact design and the arrangement of all parts outside the airframe, installation is particularly easy. As a typical field of application, Hensoldt mentions the surveillance of large sea and coastal areas for protection against piracy, smuggling and illegal intrusion and refers to the high precision and accuracy of aim.
