Lithuania’s Defence Materiel Agency has placed an order worth SEK 145 M (EUR 13 M) with Saab for Carl-Gustaf M4 ammunition, the Swedish company announced on 3 March 2023.

The order was placed under a framework agreement signed between Saab and Sweden’s Defence Materiel Administration (FMV) in 2019 that allows the Swedish armed forces, as well as those of Lithuania, Latvia and Estonia, to place orders for Carl-Gustaf weapons and ammunition over a 10-year period. All three Baltic states are already users of the weapon.

Launched in 2014, the M4 is the latest iteration of Carl-Gustaf 84 mm recoilless rifle. It is a manportable, multi-role weapon that allows dismounted soldiers to engage multiple types of target – such as armoured vehicles, bunkers or personnel – by using a variety of ammunition.

Deliveries of the ammunition to Lithuania will start during 2024.
