The US State Department has approved a potential Foreign Military Sale (FMS) to Spain of Patriot Configuration-3+ modernised fire units and related equipment, the US Defense Security Cooperation Agency reported on 4 October 2023.

The proposed sale, which is worth an estimated USD 2.8 Bn (EUR 2.65 Bn), has been passed to the US Congress for final approval.

Spain has requested to buy four Patriot Configuration-3+ modernised fire units, which feature modernised sensors and components and consist of the following: 51 Patriot Advanced Capability (PAC) 3 Missile Segment Enhanced (MSE) missiles (including one fly-to-buy missile); 24 Patriot M903 launch stations; four AN/MPQ-65 radar sets; four AN/MSQ-132 Engagement Control Stations; two Information Coordination Central (ICC) command stations; eight antenna mast groups; four electrical power plants; four energy power units; spare and repair parts; and various aspects of technical, logistics, training and programme support.

The prime contractors for the sale will be Raytheon Corporation out of its facility in Tewksbury, Massachusetts, and Lockheed Martin out of its site in Dallas, Texas.
