Underwater systems provider JFD has appointed Peter Laughton as head of its military diving business to support the company’s continued growth in both the UK and international defence markets, the company announced on 20 May 2024.
Laughton brings to the role 32 years of extensive operational experience with the Royal Navy, with a substantial part of his career being conducted at sea in frigates, destroyers, and minehunters. His specialisation since 1998 as a mine clearance diving officer, along with his recent operational command of the 12-nation International Maritime Security Construct and its operational task force (Coalition Task Force Sentinel), ensures that, as head of military diving, Laughton “will provide unparalleled expertise and knowledge to enhance JFD’s defence diving product line”, the company noted in a press release.
As a member of JFD’s defence management team, Laughton will be accountable for the general management of the company’s global defence diving team and responsible for the further development and implementation of JFD strategy. A key part of his role will be working closely with JFD’s international teams and customers to develop the company’s military diving product portfolio for the future, enhancing JFD’s offering in response to the requirements and challenges faced by modern dive teams.
“JFD is thrilled to announce the appointment of Peter Laughton to join the team,” JFD Defence Director Richard Devlin was quoted as saying in a company press release. “His depth of practical experience and knowledge will help us gain a distinctive perspective and build our competitive advantage as we work to strengthen our portfolio to better support the strategic requirements for our customers not only for today but also looking towards the future. Having Peter on our team and leveraging his operational expertise will significantly enhance JFD’s commitment to ensuring the safety of subsea workers.”
Laughton himself added, “I am genuinely thrilled to be joining JFD as the head of military diving. It’s a hugely exciting and challenging role that is in many respects a wonderful return to where it all began as a mine clearance diving officer. I look forward to playing my part applying my expertise and passion for innovation to further enhance safety and operational efficiency for underwater operators.
“Given my reliance on JFD life support systems throughout my naval career, I am looking forward to transferring my operational understanding to help JFD continue its success as a leading provider of complex and critical systems supporting leading navies globally.”
