Italian shipbuilder Fincantieri deepened its relationship with the Indonesian Navy on 30 July 2024, with the general manager of the company’s Naval Vessels Division, Dario Deste, meeting the Indonesian Navy’s chief of staff, Admiral Ali Muhammad, at the navy’s headquarters in Jakarta.

The meeting, which was also attended by the entire Indonesian Naval Staff, reflected the strategic importance Fincantieri delivering the Multipurpose Combat Ship (PPA) programme for Indonesia. Fincantieri and the Indonesian Ministry of Defence signed a EUR 1.18 billion contract covering the supply of two PPAs in March 2024.

Key discussion points during the meeting included a detailed progress report on the two PPAs under contract, along with discussions on the financing and confirmation of the delivery schedule for the ships, which will serve as multi-purpose offshore patrol vessels (OPVs).

Fincantieri will further cement its relations with the Indonesian Navy with a follow-up meeting in mid-September 2024, which will coincide with the visit of the Italian Navy aircraft carrier Cavour to Jakarta.
