The US State Department has approved a possible Foreign Military Sale (FMS) to Denmark of M1156 Precision Guidance Kits (PGKs), the US Defense Security Cooperation Agency (DSCA) announced on 15 August 2024.

The proposed sale, which is estimated to be worth USD 85 million (EUR 76.9 million), has been passed to the US Congress for final approval.

Denmark has requested to buy up to 5,832 M1156 PGKs. Also included in the deal are ancillary items; compatibility testing; firing tables; technical assistance; technical data; new equipment training; and other related elements of logistics and programme support.

The M1156 PGK is a precision guidance system that replaces the conventional fuzes of unguided 155 mm artillery rounds to turn them into precision-guided munitions by using GPS.

The proposed sale “will improve Denmark’s capability to meet current and future threats by providing precision capability equipment and will increase first strike accuracy in its brigades”, the DSCA stated.
