The Austrian Armed Forces have contracted Systematic Defence to provide its SitaWare Headquarters and SitaWare Frontline command-and-control (C2) software, the company announced on 19 November 2024.

The Systematic software, which was selected following a public tender process, will form a key component in the Austrian Armed Forces’ efforts to modernise their C2 infrastructure and ensure efficient communications from headquarters to the front line.

SitaWare Headquarters is already used by over 50 countries worldwide and is used to enhance collaborative planning, provide comprehensive situational awareness and improve decision-making processes at fixed and joint headquarters. SitaWare Frontline, meanwhile, provides a robust mounted C2 solution at the tactical level, enhancing communication and situational awareness in the forward areas of the battlespace.

“We are delighted to welcome the Austrian Armed Forces to the SitaWare user community,” Sven Trusch, managing director of Systematic’s German subsidiary, was quoted as saying in a company press release. “This contract demonstrates Austria’s commitment to enhancing its operational efficiency and interoperability. With Austria, all countries in the DACH region [Austria, Germany and Switzerland] are now finally using SitaWare for command and control.”

Earlier this year NATO also procured SitaWare for its land forces, with SitaWare Headquarters becoming the Future Land C2 capability under Project Demeter. Interoperability with NATO, especially compliance with NATO’s Future Mission Networking (FMN) concept, was among the key criteria for Austria’s selection of SitaWare, which will further enable Austria’s participation in operations with NATO and other Western partners.

Systematic Defence is opening a new office in Vienna, Austria, to further strengthening the company’s commitment to customers within the DACH region.
