Saab has signed a contract with the Swedish Defence Materiel Administration (FMV) covering the modernisation of Sweden’s coastal anti-ship missile capability, the company announced on 23 December 2024.

The total value of the contract is SEK 800 million (EUR 69.9 million), with the majority of the order intake booked in the third quarter of 2024. Deliveries will begin in 2026.

The contract covers the procurement of Saab RBS15 Mk3 anti-ship missiles integrated on truck-mounted launcher modules.

The Swedish Armed Forces reintroduced a coastal anti-ship missile capability in 2016. The currently used RBS15 Mk2 missiles will now be complemented with RBS15 Mk3s on new launcher platforms.

“Sweden will receive a significant capability increase with an anti-ship missile featuring a more advanced target seeker, increased range and a larger warhead,” Görgen Johansson, head of Saab’s Dynamics business area, was quoted as saying in a company press release, adding that the RBS15 “is specifically developed for the complex environment and harsh weather conditions of the Baltic Sea”.

The RBS15 Mk3 has a range of over 200 km, can be launched from ships and trucks and is primarily for use against naval targets. The system was developed and produced by Saab and its German partner Diehl Defence.
