Saab has received an order from BAE Systems Hägglunds for Universal Tank and Anti-Aircraft Systems (UTAAS) to install in its CV90 infantry fighting vehicles, Saab announced on 11 February 2025.

The order value is approximately SEK 700 million (EUR 62 million).

“UTAAS was specifically developed for the Combat Vehicle 90; as a result Saab and BAE Systems Hägglunds have a long and strong partnership,” Carl-Johan Bergholm, head of Saab’s Surveillance business area, was quoted as saying in a company press release.

“Combat Vehicle 90 is an effective and appreciated combat vehicle which is now in high demand by different armed forces worldwide. To meet the increased demand, we have strengthened our production capacity,” Bergholm added.

UTAAS is an integrated sight- and fire control system for the CV90 that can be used to engage both aerial and land targets. Its modular design offers the user a variety of performance options and upgrading possibilities.

Because it has an independent line of sight, the operator can retain the target in the centre of the reticle during the entire aiming and laser range-finding sequence, with no re‑aiming needed. Gun-laying is automatically controlled by the fire-control computer.

Additionally, the design of the UTAAS top module allows large deflection angles in both azimuth and elevation to be achieved, which are essential for effectiveness in targeting fast aircraft.

On 6 December 2024 it was announced that Denmark and Sweden had ordered new CV90 IFVs from BAE Systems in contracts worth a total of around USD 2.5 billion, with Denmark ordering 115 new CV9035MkIIICs and Sweden agreeing to acquire a total of 50 new vehicles (the agreement includes further CV90s for Ukraine financed by the two governments).
