Saab has signed a framework agreement with the Latvian Ministry of Defence for the RBS 70 NG ground-based short-range air defence (SHORAD) system and has received an order for the system under the deal, Saab announced on 31 March 2025.

The order value is valued at SEK 2.1 billion (EUR 0.19 billion), with deliveries to take place between 2026 and 2030.

The order includes RBS 70 NG firing units and missiles as well as trainer units.

“Saab continues to support the Latvian National Armed Forces with a strong ground-based air defence capability, which will significantly enhance its crucial ability to detect and engage aerial threats,” Görgen Johansson, head of Saab’s Dynamics business area, was quoted as saying in company press release.

The RBS 70 NG system features an automatic target tracker and built-in night sight and provides the user with capability to defeat threats including aircraft, unmanned aerial vehicles and missiles out to ranges of up to 9 km.
